Chill Out: A Step‑by‑Step Guide to Enjoying Cold Coffee

Whether you're craving a caffeinated refreshment or seeking summer coffee house vibes at home, iced coffee is always a good idea. Here's your ultimate guide to making cold brew, iced pour‑over, and iced espresso drinks at home with your favourite Trading Post coffee.

1. Cold Brew: Smooth, Low‑Acidity Refreshment

Why it works: Extended steeping time brings out rich flavours with low acidity and pillowy texture.

Ingredients & gear:

Steps:

  1. Grind your beans to coarse - like sea salt (or choose cafetiere from our drop down when ordering your coffee).

  2. Combine coarse grounds with water in your jar.

  3. Stir, seal, and steep 12–18 hours in the fridge.

  4. Strain through a sieve or filter.

  5. Serve over ice, diluted to taste, or add milk or syrups of your choice.

Single serving tip:

Why not try our Barista & Co - Strong Brew for a single serving (17g coffee/200ml water)

2. Iced Pour‑Over: Crisp & Clean Cups

Why it’s special: Sharp clarity and bright acidity—a summer delight.

Gear needed:

Steps:

  1. Pre‑brew prep: Heat water to 93 °C;  and rinse the paper filter.

  2. Add 18 grams medium ground coffee into V60.

  3. Bloom: Pour 50 ml of water, let sit for 30 seconds.

  4. Brew: Slow, circular pour in stages over ice in jug.

  5. Serve: Ice chills it instantly; top with fresh ice & enjoy.

3. Iced Espresso‑Based Drinks: Bold Meets Cold

Why espresso?: Fast‑extracted intensity packs flavour into every sip.

Recommended kit:

Drink ideas:

Iced Americano:

  • Fill a glass with ice, top with cold water, pour over a double shot of espresso

Iced Latte:

  • Fill a glass with ice, top with cold milk of choice, pour over a double shot of espresso

Espresso Tonic:

  • Double espresso over ice, top with tonic water, garnish with citrus.

Pro tip: Dial in fine grind for balanced extraction.

Final Brew Tips

Our tips and why they matter:

  • Use freshly roasted & ground coffee to retain aroma and flavours - every bag of our coffee details when the beans were roasted and if we're grinding it for you, it will be ground just before we send the coffee out - to ensure the freshest possible coffee.
  • Avoid using too much ice - too much ice will dilute the strength and flavour of your coffee.
  • Experiment! Try single shots, double shots, experiment with garnishes, use coffee ice cubes to retain strength or try different blends and single origins to experience different tasting notes for your cool coffees.

Conclusion

From cold brew's lazy elegance, iced pour‑over's bright clarity, to espresso‑based bold sips, the world of chilled coffee is vast and vibrant.
